All the four essays contained in this book are the results of in-depth and original research. This is quite like the other books of this author. To the best of the belief of the author there is hardly any historical analysis available Sir Walter Scott's The Surgeon's Daughter, that there is hardly, any synchronic analysis of the year 1835 in Indian history. It is a serminal work as is the analysis of the conflict between the temporal and the spiritual in Sarah Joseph's Othappu. Equally seminal is the essay in which the author has analyzed the concepts: primary reader and secondary reader.
